James Sharpe died from unspecified causes on 18th March, 1915, while serving in France. It is not known if he died from wounds or from illness, both of which took their toll of the men on the Western Front. The 1st King’s Royal Rifle Corps battalion of 6 Brigade, 2nd Division had arrived in France at the beginning of the war in August, 1914 and on 10th March, 1915 had been involved in some heavy fighting and suffered many casualties at the start of ther Battle of Neuve Chapelle. |
